  • Treatable by a medical professional

Bone cancer is a bone injury that originates in the bone-forming cells. This causes joint pain, swelling, bone injury or bone fractures.. Although the exact cause is unknown, the genetics and exposure to radiation play a role. The osteosarcoma can result from division of cells in an uncontrolled fashion and forming a tumor, inherited family history of bone tumors, paget's disease of bone, and radiation therapy from other cancer. Bone cancer can begin in any bone in the body, but it most commonly affects the pelvis or the long bones in the arms and legs. The symptoms that develop are determined by the type and severity of the bone cancer. However, the symptoms generally consist of bone pain, swelling and tenderness near the affected area, weakened bones leading to fracture, fatigue, and unintended weight loss. There's no specific cure for bone cancers, but there are available treatment options. Surgical removal is the most common treatment, but chemotherapy and radiation therapy also may be utilized. The decision to use surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy is based on the type of bone cancer being treated.
